It's Thursday morning and I'm getting ready to head to work. It's my Friday and, once again, I'm way over the week's sales goal. AGAIN! LOL.
Somehow the RTS prototype I had Tuesday has already turned into resources, troop production, Supplies, Zed hives, wandering Zeds, map boundaries and me bitching because the zombies look drunk when they walk around.
So yeah, progress.
But yesterday Hypnotitron showed me his prototype logo for Zed Invasion and it's absolutely fantastic. Pure Hypnotitron beauty. Then KhaoticRage is over there testing builds, thinking about maps, gameplay and what this thing could become, and I had this weird realization.
I think I'm getting a little taste of what those early id Software days must have felt like.
I'm obviously no John Carmack. The guy is a programming god. I'm in my 50s refreshing programming knowledge I haven't used in years, learning new shit along the way and spending way too much time thinking about systems, maps, movement and why the damn Zeds won't behave the way I want them to.
And VantaQueen is doing her part by making sure the Jolt Cola and cookies stay stocked while I disappear into the code.
Meanwhile Hypnotitron is falling naturally into that Romero-esque visual eliteness that he's always had, and KhaoticRage is becoming our Tom Hall/Marty Stratton, looking at the bigger picture and helping figure out what the game should become.
Three guys with completely different strengths building the same game and naturally finding their places in it.
I have to imagine there were mornings in 1991 when Carmack looked around at what those guys were building together and thought...
Holy shit. This might actually be something.
